Set within a prestigious enclave of Greenwich, Connecticut, James Doyle Design Associates reimagines the grounds of a historic Tudor residence with a blend of sophistication, restraint, and European influence.
Reflecting a seamless dialogue between old and new, architectural elements are met with a contemporary yet timeless landscape expression.

The redesign began with a refreshed vision for the main home, whose traditional Tudor silhouette was enhanced with modern interventions.
In response, the landscape followed suit—not through mimicry, but through a refined abstraction that pays homage to Northern European design traditions while meeting the expectations of modern outdoor living.
Heavily inspired by the cultivated landscapes of Northern Europe, the design introduced a series of structured yet intimate garden spaces.
These outdoor rooms—each tailored for entertaining or quiet retreat—were carefully orchestrated to provide rhythm, discovery, and utility across the estate.
This spatial layering allows the garden to unfold gradually, encouraging movement while maintaining a sense of enclosure and privacy.
Central to the project’s identity are the clean architectural lines of clipped hedges and formal trees, softened with strategic bursts of seasonal color.
The planting design balances rigor with emotion—where geometric order is punctuated by expressive textures and bloom cycles.
In spring and summer, carefully selected perennials animate the space with color and scent, while evergreen structure ensures legibility throughout the year.

Water also plays a key role in the garden’s sensory experience.
Unique water features were designed as both focal points and ambient background elements—bringing movement, light, and sound into the landscape without overwhelming its composure.
These features were integrated with a high level of craftsmanship, mirroring the architectural quality of the home’s renovation.
Every material choice was made with longevity and elegance in mind.
From natural stone underfoot to custom detailing, the palette reinforces the project’s emphasis on understated luxury.
Lighting, too, was given elevated consideration—used not simply for illumination but to sculpt form, extend usability, and bring the garden to life after dark.
This level of refinement is a hallmark of James Doyle Design Associates, known for their ability to infuse classical landscapes with a modern edge.
In this project, the firm honors the architectural heritage of the site while offering the homeowners a landscape that supports contemporary lifestyles.
The result is a timeless estate—where every outdoor space feels both purposeful and poetic.
