Utilizing sophisticated land-forming techniques, carefully placed key rocks allow this backyard to echo the natural landscapes found along nearby Koonya Beach.

This inner mimicry of the outer natural landscape not only enhances the site’s aesthetic appeal but also functions as a guiding element for the flow and use of its outdoor spaces.

Featuring a vibrant mix of soft grasses and perennial blooms that contrast with the tough coastal vegetation, the landscape was designed to promote texture, depth and dynamic movement throughout the year.

More specifically, existing large Coast Banksia (Banksia integrifolia) trees were preserved, reinforcing the client’s vision of integrating local coastal plants.

In the rear garden, a diverse planting scheme creates a striking contrast to the rugged, hardy coastal species that frame the outer edges of the property.

This selection introduces a burst of vibrancy, further amplifying the heightened sensory experience of this landscape, especially as the seasons change.

The inclusion of these plants not only enhances the garden’s aesthetic and ecological value but also supports local wildlife, creating a habitat that encourages birds and insects to visit.
