Nestled along the Echo Canyon area of Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, this modern residence satisfies the client’s love of outdoor living and entertaining designed by TRUEFORM Landscape Architects.

A heavily textured courtyard wall defines the front yard, focusing views to Camelback Mountain while enclosing a simple swimming pool and spa.

Concrete salvaged from a previous demolition of an older structure was utilized as paving for both an entry walkway from the street and as guest parking.

In a nod to Arizona’s rich tradition of turquoise jewelry, a painted entry gate welcomes visitors after they walk through a grove of hybrid Palo Verde trees.
Salvaged native Ironwood trees were carefully placed to frame views and invoke a sense of history and awe in a newly planted landscape.

With drought a considerable factor in Arizona, a water harvesting garden including a dynamic architectural rain scupper serves as the foreground from the dining areas to the stunning mountain view.

During the earlier demolition phase of the previous home, large concrete footings were removed and appeared as sculptural opportunities.
A total of four were identified and placed as garden sculptures, including one directly beneath the rain scupper.

The seamless connections from architecture to garden have created an outdoor living experience quintessential to the Sonoran Desert.
